Municipal Prosecutor
Responsible for conducting prosecutions and appeals in the Ontario Court of Justice for offences under provincial statutes, selected federal statutes and municipal by‑laws.
General Duties
- Conduct prosecutions (first attendance, pre‑trials, trials, pre‑appeals, appeals) by evaluating charges, reviewing evidence, determining appropriate actions and preparing legal documents.
- Conduct disclosures, respond to motions under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and other pre‑trial proceedings.
- Review statements of witnesses, interview and prepare expert and civilian witnesses.
- Prepare and direct the preparation/serving of related court documents.
- Negotiate settlements when required.
- Present oral and written legal arguments in the Ontario Court of Justice.
