Makes repairs to machinery, mechanical equipment and/or optical equipment. Interprets verbal and written instructions and specifications; planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Uses various design software such as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAM) software to model cutting paths and program tool changers. Programs, sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools; machines and shapes metal parts to close tolerances; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machining.
