Overview
A Roads Worker repairs broken and eroded roads on highways, municipal roads, and rural roads. Roads Workers are responsible for clearing debris from roads to maintain hazard-free roadways. Also called Highway Maintenance Workers.
Responsibilities
- Repair broken roads on highway, town, and city roads.
- Operate machinery to dig up holes, pour concrete, and smooth surfaces.
- Set up cones and signs to alert motorists.
- Plow snow.
- Clear debris from roads to maintain hazard-free roads.
- Paint dividing lines between traffic lanes.
- Lay asphalt.
- Patrol roads for hazards, snow/ice conditions, and maintenance/repair needs.
- Inspect and maintain operating equipment.
- Change vehicle fluids, including greases and oils.
